KOTTAYAM: CPM state secretary MV Govindan said that the Periya murder case was not a conspiracy by the CPM leadership. He responded that the CBI court verdict is not the final word and that efforts will be made to convince the higher court. "The charge against the convicted former MLA KV Kunhiraman is that he obstructed the investigation. In fact, he was helping the investigation. The CBI's finding is not that the murder was committed through conspiracy," he said.

"CBI found only what the police found and nothing beyond that. The CBI's stance, which tried to make the CPM a part of the case for political purposes, will be effectively countered. Party leaders and workers were implicated in the case by the CBI with political motives. However, they could not be included in the attempted murder case. Therefore, the CBI used some other sections," MV Govindan alleged. He added that the party has taken action against the CPM members who are the accused in the murder case

Accused 1 to 8 and 10 and 15 were sentenced to double life imprisonment and fined in the case. Accused 14, 20, 21 and 22, including former MLA KV Kunhiraman, were sentenced to five years in prison. Accused one to eight are directly involved in the murder. CBI special court judge Seshadrinathan pronounced the sentence
