Four from Mavelikara killed after KSRTC deluxe bus falls into gorge

IDUKKI: Four people have been killed after a KSRTC bus carrying a tourist group falls into a gorge. The tragic accident occurred at Pullupara in Idukki Monday morning around 6:30 am. Two women and two men are those killed in the accident. The dead has been identified as Arun Hari, Rema Mohan, Sangeeth and Bindu.


The accident happened in between Kuttikkanam and Mundakayam in Idukki. The bus fell into a 30-foot-deep gorge. The deluxe bus, which was carrying a tourist group from Mavelikara to Thanjavur, met with the accident. 34 passengers were in the bus at the time of the accident. The people in the bus were taken out as soon as the accident happened. They were rescued by the police and the locals. Efforts are still on to lift the bus.


The accident happened when the bus was returning to Mavelikara from Thanjavur. The bus was supposed to reach Mavelikara by 5 am today. The injured have been admitted to hospitals in Peerumedu and Mundakayam. Meantime, a major accident was averted as the bus that fell down hit a tree and stood there. The driver reportedly said brake failure led to the accident. There was an accident in the same spot where there are large curves the other day also. A vehicle carrying Sabarimala devotees met with the accident.
