THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Ameya V Pramod, a native of Palakkad Puthur, came as the second contestant in the high school category of Kerala dance. Hours before participating in the competition, she went through a minor health concern. It was doubted whether she could enter the stage on time and ambiguity continued as she delayed doing the make-up. However, when the bell rang, Ameya was on stage, flexing her body in full swing, attuned to the song.
Neither the health problem nor the delayed makeup affected the Class Eight student’s performance. Indeed, the young prodigy awed the audience with her moves and sparkling expressions. Ameya also received a pat on the back from her father and Guru Pramod. Apart from his daughter, five disciples of Pramod are participating in the school arts festival this time.
Ameya is slowly following Pramod’s footsteps into the world of dance. She has been training under her father for over 10 years. This time Ameya is participating in only one category. Pramod was a regular presence in the state school arts festivals during his time. In the 1992 festival, he lost the Kalaprathibha title by just one point.
Pramod has competed in Bharatanatyam, Kuchipudi, Mohiniyattam, folk dance and Kannada verse recitation. Ameya says training under her father helped her gain confidence to tackle all adversities. Ameya’s father Pramod and mother Veena Chandran are school teachers.
