PATHANAMTHITTA: Former principal of SME Nursing College, Chuttipara Abdul Salam and teacher Saji were suspended for inaction over the death of nursing student Ammu, an Ayiroorpara native, who allegedly jumped from the third floor of the hostel building. Centre for Professional and Advanced Studies Director P. Harikrishnan initiated the punitive action against the principal and the teacher.
An internal inquiry found that the principal and the teacher had failed to investigate the complaint lodged by the parents even before Ammu’s death. In the complaint, it was said that Ammu was facing harassment and mental torture from three of her classmates.
Ammu Sajeev, a final year nursing student of Chuttipara SME College, was found dead after falling from the hostel building on November 15. Three classmates were arrested in the incident, but no action was taken against the teacher.
Right after the incident, the principal was transferred. Ammu's family had repeatedly asked the principal and the teacher to be added to the accused list. The accused female students were suspended from the college.
