THRISSUR: The body of Bhava Gayakan P Jayachandran was brought to his house in Punkunnam. The body of the singer will be kept at the Sangeetha Nataka Akademi from 10 am to 12 pm for the people to pay homage. The body will later be taken to his house. He will be laid to rest at the Paliath crematorium at Chendamangalam in Paravur at 3.30 pm tomorrow.
P Jayachandran passed away at 7.54 pm last night. He had been undergoing treatment for liver ailments at Amala Hospital for more than a week. Although he was discharged from the hospital the other day, he collapsed at his home yesterday due to a serious illness. Although he was admitted to the hospital later, his life could not be saved. His wife and children were with him at the time of his death. He was staying in Gul Mohar Flat in Poonkunnam Sitaram Mill Line.
He was born on March 3 in 1944 at Ravipuram in Ernakulam, as the third of five children of Ravi Varma Kochaniyan Thampuran and Paliath Subhadrakunjamma. He won first prize in Mridangam and second price in light music in the second School Youth Festival held in Thiruvananthapuram in 1958. Yesudas won the first prize in light music and Carnatic music.
After graduating in Zoology from Christ College in Irinjalakuda, he joined a private company in Madras. He left his job after gaining reputation as a playback singer. He leaves behind his wife Lalitha, daughter Lakshmi and son singer Dhinanath. Jayachandran has also acted in films including Nakhashathangal.
