THRISSUR: The body of playback singer P Jayachandran, who passed away last night, was taken back to his house in Punkunnam from Sangeetha Nataka Akademi. The body was kept in Sangeetha Nataka Akademi from 10 am to 12 pm for the public to pay homage. Thousands are flocking to pay homage to the singer at his residence in Punkunnam.
People from all walks of life are coming to pay their last respects. Minister Bindu, director Kamal, Sreekumaran Thampi, Balachandra Menon, Ouseppachan, Manoj K Jayan, Vidyadharan Master, Kathakali teacher Kalamandalam Gopi, Jayaraj Warrier, and mela expert Peruvanam Kuttan Marar, among many others, came to pay their last respects to P Jayachandran.
Jayachandran, who kept Malayalees in the heart of music for six decades, passed away at 7.54 pm last night. He had been undergoing treatment at Amala Hospital for more than a week due to a liver-related illness.
Although he was discharged from the hospital yesterday, he collapsed at home yesterday. He was then admitted to the hospital but his life could not be saved. His wife and children were with him at the time of his death. He lived in Gul Mohar Flat on Sitaram Mill Line, Punkunnam. He will be laid to rest at 3.30 pm tomorrow at the Paliath crematorium at Chendamangalam in Paravur.
