PATHANAMTHITTA: The number of people arrested in the sexual abuse case of a Dalit girl, an athlete, has touched 39. The accused are housed in four police stations in Pathanamthitta. More arrests are likely by this evening, the police said. Some of the accused are abroad. The police said all efforts will continue to bring them back to the country. A lookout notice will be issued.
The police have registered a case of gang rape. A 25-member team led by Pathanamthitta DySP S Nandakumar is investigating the case. DIG Ajitha Begum will monitor. There are people who sexually abused her after capturing her nude images. The girl used to communicate with the accused on her father’s phone. Her father didn’t know how to use a smartphone.
The police have also found that the girl's phone number and nude images were widely circulated. The police said the girl was even subjected to rape at the General Hospital in Pathanamthitta. She was first abused when she was 13. She is now 18. The incident came to light a few days ago after the girl’s revelation before the Child Welfare Committee (CWC). The CWC got the information of 62 people through counseling. In addition to POCSO, the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes Prevention of Atrocities Act has also been filed against the accused.
