After a brief hiatus, IMD predicts Kerala's first strong rainfall of 2025; Yellow alert in TVM

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: After a brief hiatus, strong rain warnings are back again in the state. In the background of a heavy cyclone formation, the Indian meteorological department has predicted heavy rain with thunderstorms between January 13th and 16th in the state.

IMD has predicted that rain will continue till Thursday. Temperatures are likely to rise by 2 degrees Celsius to 3 degrees Celsius above normal at isolated places over the next two days while isolated light/moderate rain with thundershowers remain a possibility on January 12 and 13. Central Meteorological Department has announced a yellow alert in various districts.

A yellow alert was announced in Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam and Pathanamthitta districts on the 15th. A chance of isolated heavy rain is forecast. Heavy rain refers to rainfall between 64.5 mm and 115.5 mm in 24 hours duration.

National Center for Oceanographic Studies (INCOIS) warned of the possibility of high waves of 0.5 to 1.0 meters along the coast of Kerala and Tamil Nadu today (13/01/2025) from 02.30 PM to 15/01/2025 at 11.30 PM. As the rough seas are likely to intensify, people should stay away from the dangerous areas as per the instructions of the authorities.
