One more girl who fell into Peechi dam reservoir dies; death toll reaches three

THRISSUR: One more girl who fell into the Peechi Dam reservoir has passed away. The deceased is Erin (16), a resident of Pattikkad. She breathed her last while undergoing treatment at Jubilee Mission Medical College. With this, the death toll from the accident has risen to three. Erin was a Plus One student. Earlier, Pattikkad natives Anne Grace (16) and Aleena (16) had died in the accident.

A total of four girls were involved in the accident. Peechi native Nima (13) survived despite being in critical condition and is still undergoing treatment. Nima is a seventh-grade student. All the girls involved in the accident were students of St. Clare's Convent Girls' Higher Secondary School in Thrissur.

The accident occurred at around 3 pm on Sunday in the Thekkekkulam area of the Peechi Dam reservoir. Two girls initially slipped and fell from a sloping rock, and during the rescue attempt, two others also fell into the deeper part of the reservoir below the Peechi Pallikkunnu Anganwadi.

The three involved in the accident were classmates of Nima's sister Hima. Locals who heard Hima's screams on the shore rushed to the spot and pulled all four out. According to the rescuers, three of the girls were unconscious when they were pulled out. The three girls had come to Hima's house for a church festival celebration.
