KOCHI: High Court has ordered to introduce reservation for transgender people in educational institutions and government jobs within six months. The proposal is based on an order issued by the Supreme Court in a case between the National Legal Services Authority and the central government recognizing Transgender people as third gender. The order came from a division bench comprising Justice A Muhamed Mustaque and Justice P Krishnakumar. The petition filed in this regard, by C. Kabir, a native of Palakkad, has been disposed of.

The division bench clarified that although it does not interfere in the policy-making matters of the government, the directive is given on the basis of the recognition of the rights of transgender people by the Supreme Court itself.
