KOTTAYAM: Former MLA PC George has been granted anticipatory bail in the hate speech case. It was the Kottayam Sessions Court that granted anticipatory bail to the former MLA.
The incident related to the case occurred on January 6. The case was registered by the Erattupetta police on the complaint lodged by the Youth League Erattupetta Mandalam Committee. George is facing charges, including promoting religious enmity and inciting riots, for allegedly making anti-Muslim comments during a TV debate.
George reportedly made controversial statements, including, "Muslims in India are religious extremists. They have killed thousands of Christians and Hindus. Muslims should go to Pakistan." He also alleged that he lost the election in Erattupetta due to Muslim communalism. The delay in arresting George had sparked protests, leading him to file an anticipatory bail plea.
Shaun George, the son of PC George, had stated that his father had retracted his statement and issued an apology. Shaun claimed that the case was politically motivated. "Some refuse to accept the apology and are determined to keep this issue alive. Their agenda is to turn good, patriotic Muslim brothers and sisters against the country. These are the real people spreading communal tension in the country," Shaun stated.
