RIYADH: The release order of Abdul Rahim of Kodampuzha near Feroke in Kozhikode, who has been imprisoned in Saudi Arabia for the last 18 years for killing his sponsor’s disabled son, will be delayed further. The Riyadh Court postponed saying that time is need for a detailed study and scrutiny. The case is being postponed for the sixth time. The next sitting date will be available soon.
The final verdict and release order in the case are yet to be issued. However, no order has been issued today. Although Abdul Rahim's death sentence was quashed on July 2, his release is being delayed because the case related to public offenses is pending. If there is a release order, it will have to be approved by the high court and the Governorate. Rahim will be released from prison only after this. The Indian Embassy in Riyadh has made all the arrangements for him to return home. The case was considered last December, but the case was postponed to January 15.
Abdul Rahim has been in prison for the past 18 years after being sentenced to death in the case of the murder of his sponsor's disabled 15-year-old son. The death sentence was cancelled after the Saudi youth's family officially announced that they would pardon him after accepting blood money and handed over the money for further proceedings. The blood money of 15 million riyals were collected by Malayalees and given to the boy's family.
