Woman trampled to death by wild elephant in Nilambur

MALAPPURAM: A tribal woman was trampled to death by a wild elephant at Moothedam in Nilambur. The woman dead is Sarojini alias Neeli (52) of Uchakulam Ooru. The incident happened Wednesday morning at 11 am. The incident happened when she went to graze her goats. Though seriously injured Sarojini was taken to Nilambur Hospital, her life could not be saved.

She went to the forest with a team including her husband Kariyan. They saw a herd of elephants and suddenly one of them attacked her and soon the others fled away from the spot. Her internal organs were seriously injured. The incident happened 500 meters away from her house. Moothedam village in Nilambur constituency shares a border with the forest. The locals are protesting in the area. This is the second death in wild elephant attack in ten days.
