Baby in ICU after crackers were burst during wedding celebrations in Kannur

KANNUR: A 22-day-old baby developed serious health issues after powerful crackers were burst during wedding celebrations. The baby born to Ashraf and Rafana of Thrippangottur in Kannur, is undergoing treatment in the intensive care unit. Powerful crackers were used during the wedding celebrations held at a nearby house. There was a band set also. The wedding celebrations were on Sunday and Monday. The woman taking care of the baby said that even after requesting them not to burst crackers, they did not pay heed to it. The baby's father has filed a complaint with the police in connection with the incident.


‘The first incident happened at around 10 pm on Sunday. There was a loud sound. The baby's mouth and eyes opened due to the sudden noise. The baby returned to normal after some time. The wedding was on Monday. That day, when the groom was leaving to the wedding hall, a similar celebration was there by bursting crackers. A major sound was heard then.


The baby's mouth and eyes opened after hearing the noise. It was opened for 10 minutes. The baby was motionless then. The baby cried and moved after patting under the baby’s feet for a while. Crackers were burst in the same way at night. It was during this time that the baby had more problems. Her family had asked them not to burst crackers, but they did not pay heed to it, the woman taking care of the baby told media.
