KOCHI: The special branch report said jail DIG P Ajaya Kumar, who helped industrialist Boby Chemmanur remanded in the sexual abuse case filed against him by actress Honey Rose, went out of his way and helped him in Kakkanad jail.
The DIG, who was attending a private function, rushed to the jail to meet Boby. He also met the accused in the Thrissur financial fraud case in the Ernakulam jail. The report said the DIG was accompanied by a 'power broker' from Thrissur. The DIG arranged all facilities for Boby including to use the superintendent's toilet. The special branch submitted the report along with the CCTV footage to the government. The investigation report of the DIG of the prison headquarters will also be submitted to the government today.
Meantime, the ADGP, head of the jail, reprimanded P Ajaya Kumar, the central zone DIG of the prison department, in the incident. He was reprimanded at the officer-level meeting. However, Ajaya Kumar explained that he had gone to investigate the complaint of drunkenness in the jail superintendent's quarters. The ADGP countered by asking whether he had gone to investigate the case with women in a private vehicle.
The DIG replied that his relatives travelling with him wanted to use the toilet. ADGP Balram Kumar Upadhyay, also the jail chief then publicly reprimanded the DIG in the presence of other officers, saying that he should not talk nonsense and that he has all the evidence.
