Patient dies after car blocks way of ambulance in Kannur; case filed against doctor

KANNUR: A case was registered against a car owner for not giving way for an ambulance on an emergency mission. Doctor Rahul Raj, a native of Pinarayi, drove the car without giving way to the ambulance. The elderly woman, who was inside the ambulance died after not receiving treatment on time. Rukiya (61), a native of Mattannur, died in the incident. Kathiroor police registered a case based on the complaint filed by the ambulance driver. A fine of Rs 5000 was also collected from Rahul Raj.

The incident took place on Eranholi Nayanar Road around 5 pm on Friday. Rukiya was on her way being rushed to a hospital in Thalassery after suffering a heart attack. Meanwhile, Rahul Raj's car despite having enough space, denied way for the ambulance to pass through. The car remained in front of the ambulance for at least half an hour. Rukiya died shortly after the ambulance reached the hospital.
