THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The verdict in the infamous Sharon murder case will be pronounced on January 20th. When it was the turn of Greeshma to respond in the court, she boasted about her distinction in MA, no criminal background and pleaded with the court to hand over the minimum punishment possible under the law as she was the only daughter of her parents.

Despite the court finding Greeshma guilty of the murder, the defence section asked the court to allow her a chance for course correction. However, at this point, the prosecution jumped into action and called Greeshma’s conduct akin to a devil and said that she betrayed the love of Sharon in the most brutal way possible. The prosecution has also been able to prove it through circumstantial evidence.

The hearing began today at 11 am in the Neyyattinkara Additional Sessions Court.

The case: Sharon Raj (23), Greeshma’s beau, reached her house in Parassala after she summoned him. Greeshma forced him to take down an Ayurvedic potion which she had shrewdly mixed with herbicide. Soon after drinking it, Sharon vomited and fell ill. Sharon died while undergoing treatment at a hospital some days later. Greeshma planned the murder to get out of the relationship and go ahead with another marriage with a soldier. The police found that Greeshma's mother and uncle connived in her efforts. It was Nirmalakumaran Nair, Greeshma's uncle, who bought the herbicide.
