KOOTHATTUKULAM: The UDF protested against the abduction of a CPM councillor when the no-confidence motion was to be discussed in the Koothattukulam municipal council. UDF members boycotted the council meeting while UDF activists besieged the police station demanding action in the incident. The protest is led by MLA Anoop Jacob. The municipality is governed by the LDF, which has 13 members. The LDF decided not to participate after receiving notice of the no-confidence motion.
However, things turned interesting when an LDF councillor defected and announced that he would vote in favour of the UDF. He arrived at the municipal council in the vehicle of a UDF councillor. But things took a turn after the LDF councillor was dragged into the vehicle of the municipal chairperson. UDF vehemently protested saying that the police were mute spectators when the incident unfolded.
There was earlier an allegation of corruption in the construction of the isolation ward, which was built at Rs one crore and 79 lakhs. In the issue, the UDF moved an adjournment motion but was denied permission by the ruling LDF. UDF Chairman Prince Paul John, Block Congress President PC Jose, Congress Constituency President Reji John and councillors said in a press conference that this is the reason for issuing a no-confidence motion notice against the corruption of the ruling party.
