KOLKATA: The Kolkata court found accused Sanjay Roy guilty over the gruesome murder of a trainee doctor in RG Kar Medical College Hospital. The court was convinced of the torture and sexual assault sections charged against the accused in the case. The parents of the victim were also present inside court for the hearing.
At the same time, the accused argued in court that he did not do anything wrong. He also demanded the arrest of the real culprits behind the crime. Sanjay Roy also implicated an IAS officer in the crime. The body of a 31-year-old PG doctor was found in the hospital's seminar hall on August 9 last year. The accused was working as a civil volunteer in the Kolkata Police. Even though not on duty, Sanjay always visited the hospital where the doctor worked.
According to reports, Roy joined Kolkata Police's Disaster Management Group as a volunteer in 2019. Later, the police shifted him to the welfare cell. He was then moved to the police outpost of RG Kar Medical College Hospital. On the morning of the incident, the body of the doctor was found half-naked inside the seminar hall of the college. After the postmortem report confirmed rape, a huge protest broke out across the country and Sanjay was eventually arrested. With many people including the parents of the victim expressing dissatisfaction with the police investigation, the Calcutta High Court suo moto took the case and handed over it to the CBI.
Reports have emerged that the brutal torture took place between 3 am and 5 am on August 9. The post-mortem report states that the woman was strangled to death. The thyroid cartilage was broken due to forceful strangulation. The four-page report also stated that due to the accused's perverse sex addiction and brutal genital torture, the woman had deep injuries on her private parts.
