Nedumangad bus accident: Motor vehicle department with strict action; driver's license cancelled

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The motor vehicle department has taken strict action in the case of the death of one person after a tourist bus overturned in Nedumangad Irinchayam. The Motor Vehicle Department has cancelled the fitness, permit and RC of the tourist bus involved in the accident. The driving licence of Aruldas (34), a native of Ottasekharamangalam, the arrested driver, has been cancelled. The police have registered a case against him for carelessly driving a vehicle and causing the loss of a life.

The tourist bus carrying the excursion group met with the accident at Irinchayam on Friday night. 60-year-old Dasini died in the accident. 44 people were injured. The accident occurred in a bus carrying an excursion group going from Perumkadavila to Munnar.

Eyewitnesses say that the bus that was involved in the accident was speeding. Those who were present at the time of the accident said that the driver lost control of the bus while overtaking a lorry. The bus overturned after taking a curve and losing control. The eyewitnesses say that the bus was sliding on the road till then and they rushed there hearing a sound. The passengers were brought out by quick rescue operation by locals, fire force and police. Passengers were taken to Nedumangad District Hospital in private vehicles and ambulances and were shifted to various hospitals after preliminary examination.
