NEW DELHI: The CBI presented several crucial pieces of evidence during the 66-day closed-door trial against accused Sanjay Roy in the case where a doctor was raped and murdered at RG Kar Medical College in Kolkata.
The evidence included DNA samples, traces of the victim’s bodily fluids, and five deep wounds found on Roy, allegedly sustained during the struggle. Additionally, a Bluetooth device linked to Roy’s phone was discovered at the crime scene. The accused also underwent a polygraph test. The CBI filed a 45-page charge sheet against Roy.
Accused claims innocence
In court, Roy maintained his innocence, claiming he was framed. He argued that had he committed the crime, the rudraksha chain he wore around his neck would have broken during the struggle. He further alleged that an IPS officer was involved in the incident that led to the death of the doctor.
Will continue to fight, says victim's father
Although the victim’s parents welcomed the court finding Roy guilty, they claimed that other culprits were also involved in the crime. They pointed to the DNA report, which indicated the presence of four male and one female individuals at the scene.
“The case is not over yet. We will not rest until all those responsible are punished. This fight for justice will continue until our last breath. The CBI has not done enough, and we have raised many questions in court. However, the court has placed the full responsibility on the CBI,” the victim’s father said.
Senior BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari welcomed the verdict and called for further investigations into the allegations raised by the victim’s family.
Will not file appeal, says sister of accused
The accused’s sister stated that they would not file an appeal against the verdict. “If he has committed the crime, he deserves the appropriate punishment. We will not challenge the decision,” she said.
She added that although her brother was known to be a drunkard, she had no knowledge of him behaving inappropriately with women. “We have been estranged for years, so I am unaware of his recent activities,” she noted.
