KOCHI: Action has been recommended against the jail DIG and the superintendent of Kakkanad Jail for giving special privileges to businessman Boby Chemmanur in the Kakkanad Jail. Jail ADGP has submitted the report to the government.

The government had earlier asserted that strong action would be taken in the issue. An urgent report was sought from the jail ADGP. Action is likely to be taken by Monday.
While Boby Chemmanur was remanded in Kakkanad District Jail, central zone jail DIG P Ajaya Kumar had visited the jail. Three of Boby's friends accompanied the officer. They were allowed to interact with Boby Chemmanur, violating prison rules.

The DIG's investigation had found that Boby Chemmanur was summoned to the superintendent's room and that corrections were made in the property register of the jail. The investigation has also found that there was a lapse in bringing people to the jail illegally.

The prison employees except the superintendent, had given statements against the DIG. Ajaya Kumar will retire in May. He has requested the government to grant him leave from February.
