MUMBAI: The accused, who was arrested by the police for allegedly attacking actor Saif Ali Khan, has confessed to the crime. The accused, a Bangladeshi national named Mohammad Shariful Islam (30), claimed he acted out of fear. He admitted to entering the house knowing it was Saif's residence. He also confessed to having visited the vicinity multiple times to plan the robbery. Furthermore, Shariful Islam revealed to the police that he had planned robberies at the houses of other Bollywood celebrities as well.
The police arrested Shefirul Islam near the Hiranandani Estate in Kasarvadavali, about 35 kilometres from Saif Ali Khan's residence in Bandra. The accused had broken into Saif’s house for robbery on Thursday. When his plan failed, he attacked Saif and fled the scene. The police managed to capture him after a 70-hour-long search.
After his arrest, the accused confessed his crime to a senior police officer. He also disclosed that he had hidden in the forest upon learning that a team of 100 police officers was searching for him.
The police reported that the accused had been living in Mumbai under the alias Bijoy Das for the past four months. He is currently in police custody for five days.
