KANNUR: CPM has gone into the defensive after U K Salim’s father made shocking revelations about party involvement in the murder of his son. The party denied the disclosure made by KP Yusuf, the father of U K Salim, a Ussan Motta native. However, it has not been able to bring down the rising protest over the revelations.
In his revelations, Yusuf blamed the lackadaisical investigation approach by police in Fazal's murder and the subsequent murders of people who had the know-how of the Fazal murder case conspiracy. On the night of the murder, Salim left his house late at night, saying that he was summoned by party members.
Fazal had left CPM for NDF which left many in the party incensed. The initial police investigation found RSS members as the culprits but the CBI brought out the real criminals; CPM members in Kannur. In the context of Salim's father's disclosure, Congress demanded a comprehensive investigation into the issue. DCC chairman Martin George raised suspicion over the series of murders that took place after the Fazal case and demanded a thorough investigation.
It is alleged that those who knew the involvement of the CPM leadership in the Fazal murder case were killed under mysterious circumstances. After the Fazal murder case, Panchara Shinil, Muzhikara Kuttan and Raees were killed. Shinil was found murdered under mysterious circumstances on the railway track in Edayanoor. In the same year, Kuttan was also killed in a bomb blast near the CPM office in Mattannur.
Raees, a CPM activist, was found dead after being hit by a train. After that, U.K. Salim was stabbed to death. All these deaths are suspected to be related to the Fazal murder case. According to K Salim's father, Salim was too scared to get out of the house after Raees' death. Salim was killed on the night of July 23, 2008. The accused were seven NDF workers.
