MUMBAI: Eleven people met a tragic end after they jumped onto the tracks seeing smoke rising from the train. The incident took place in Maharashtra's Jalgaon district on Wednesday evening. Passengers of Lucknow-Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus Pushpak Express died. They jumped onto the next track to escape after mistaking that Pushpak Express was on fire after smoke billowed from it. The Karnataka Express, which was coming in the opposite direction, hit these passengers, said Swapnil Nila, the chief spokesperson of the Central Railway. Railway officials informed that five people were injured.
The incident took place near Paranda railway station near Pacharo, more than 400 km from Mumbai. Officials also said that an inquiry has been ordered into the accident. Railway officials, state government representatives and rescue workers have reached the spot to lead the rescue operations. At the same time, it is reported that the information about the fire that broke out in Pushpak Express was false.
