THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Mobile phone addiction among children in Kerala is a topic that warrants discussion. The mobile phone offers labyrinthine routes of entertainment and children are glued into it. Some contents of this entertainment are unwittingly making children espouse violence.
Kerala was amused seeing the video of a student issuing death threats to the principal for seizing his phone. The issue happened in Palakkad. This single incident saw social media throwing brickbats at Gen Z citizens, and questioning their unscrupulous ethos. Minister of Higher Education R Bindu was not too convinced by this criticism.
“Seniors are trying to blame the younger generation over the Palakkad incident. It is criminal to put all children of Kerala in a negative light. It is high time for senior citizens to drop their sadist thrills in publically shaming the younger generations. Sharing such a video in the public domain shows sadistic tendencies. It was not an ideal move expected from teachers. Portraying the child as a criminal and using this trope to portray all younger generation as hopeless, reeks of sadism.” Said Minister R Bindu.
