MALAPPURAM: A wild elephant fell into a well at Odakkayam in Vettilappara. The incident happened early Thursday morning. The wild elephant fell into the 25-foot deep well in the farm belonging to Sunny of Odakkayam. The forest department and the police are carrying out rescue operations. This is an area that is constantly facing wildlife attacks. A herd of elephants had come to the area last night. It is believed that one of the elephants fell into the well which is not covered.

Meantime, the mission to tranquilize a wild elephant with wound on forehead at Athirappilly in Thrissur resumed at 6:30 am. The elephant has not been found yet. It is believed that the elephant is in the reserve forest. If it is a suitable place, it has been decided to tranquilize the elephant immediately. If it is near a river, the elephant should be shifted to another place. The plan is to move the elephant by shooting and bursting crackers. After tranquilizing the elephant, it will be treated for its wound. The elephant will be later released into the forest.
