NM Vijayan's suicide: IC Balakrishnan MLA arrested, released on bail

SULTHAN BATHERY: IC Balakrishnan MLA was arrested in connection with Wayanad DCC Treasurer NM Vijayan's suicide on Saturday. The court had earlier granted anticipatory bail to the MLA. The arrest was recorded after the interrogation was completed. The questioning focused on references in NM Vijayan's letters. The MLA is the first accused in the case related to suicide and is charged with abetment of suicide.

A team led by DySP Sulthan Bathery interrogated him at the district police camp in Puthurvayal. The MLA had already reiterated that he had nothing to do with the financial transaction mentioned in NM Vijayan's letter. The arrest of two Congress leaders in connection with the death of NM Vijayan was recorded the other day.

DCC president ND Appachan and former Congress leader KK Gopinathan were arrested. They were released after completion of proceedings as the court had granted them anticipatory bail. It is said that their names were mentioned in the letter written by Vijayan to the KPCC president. It is reported that the statements obtained during the police investigation also gave doubts about the involvement of the leaders in the death.
