'How did Bear Grylls understand Hindi?', Narendra Modi opens up

man-vs-wild-show

NEW DELHI: Soon after Prime Minister Narendra Modi appeared on an episode of Discovery channel's 'Man vs Wild,' many were curious about how its host Bear Grylls was able to understand Modi's words which were in Hindi. Now, the Prime Minister himself has come up explaining how they both communicated while shooting for the show. The PM opened up while participating in the radio show 'Mann Ki Baat.'

According to Modi, it was technology that helped the two understand each other during their exploration of the Jim Corbett National park. "Whenever I spoke immediately there was a simultaneous translation into English or simultaneous interpretation and Bear Grylls had a small cordless instrument in his ear. So I used to speak in Hindi but he heard it in English and because of that the communication became very easy and this is an amazing aspect about technology," he said.

The PM also urged everyone to visit the North-eastern states once in their lives to enjoy their natural beauty and rich ecosystem. He also took the opportunity to ask the citizens to help him make India plastic-free as soon as possible. The 'Swachta hi Seva' program which will be launched as part of Mahatma Gandhi's 150th birth anniversary will aim to make India plastic-free by collecting plastics with the cooperation of people and local governing bodies, he added.
