NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court downplayed the alleged security issues looming over Mullaperiyar dam as mere concerns. The Supreme Court said that a three-member bench will consider the petitions related to the Mullaperiyar dam. A bench comprising Justices Rishikesh Roy and SVN Bhatti considered the issues.
“It is said that the people living on the periphery of the dam fear the chances of the dam collapsing and are always on vigil. However, the dam survived more than twice its life span and nothing happened till now. We also have worked in the same Kerala where now, fear propaganda is being circulated about the dam collapsing. The dam survived more than 135 years. We should thank those people behind such great architecture.” Said the court.
Justice Rishikesh Roy was earlier the Chief Justice of the Kerala High Court. Justice SVN Bhatti has also served as Acting Chief Justice of the High Court.
