THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Resentment is brewing in Congress against the marginalization of backward classes in the organization and selection of candidates for elections. The news published by Kerala Kaumudi on Thursday, about AICC's secret survey that warned UDF of yet another election debacle if ignored backward classes, turned into a talking matter within the party.
Leaders and cadres of the Congress from backward classes hailed the timely intervention of Kerala Kaumudi as a 'shock treatment' for the party leadership. There is a general opinion within the party that if not taken the issue seriously, UDF will end up sitting as opposition for the third time.
Several fax messages from party local leaders and cadres deliberating the issue reached the KPCC and DCC offices on Thursday, surprising the leadership. At the meeting of the Congress ward presidents in Thiruvananthapuram on Thursday, the block office bearer gifted Kerala Kaumudi paper as a gift to all members.
KC Venugopal, general secretary of AICC organization, said that the concern of the Ezhava community and other backward sections will be resolved. K C Venugopal was responding to the report that came in Kerala Kaumudi.
“Ezhava community, Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes should not feel neglected. Congress is an organization that works in harmony with SNDP. We can’t go ahead ignoring SNDP. There were some flubs in candidate selection. Considering the matter seriously, necessary instructions have already been given. In elections, we have to look at the possibility of victory along with community consideration.’ Said K C Venugopal.
