KANNUR: The police have arrested four persons following a complaint by a woman that her husband was missing. Ranjith (32), a native of Nedumangad, Thiruvananthapuram, was reported missing by his wife at the Poonthura police station. The arrested persons are Shamnaaz (39), MA Najimsha (41), Biju Prasad (28), and K Ajith Kumar (56), all from Vembayam, Thiruvananthapuram. They were taken into custody by Payyanur police in Kannur.

Ranjith was also there with the suspects. Upon receiving the information, the Poonthura police left for Payyanur. When the police tried to contact Ranjith on his mobile phone, it was switched off. Upon receiving information that Ranjith and the four-member gang were travelling to Kasargod, the Poonthura police passed the information to stations in Kannur and Kasaragod.

Later, on Thursday night, the police intercepted the group's car near Payyanur bus stand and took them into custody. Ranjith, however, stated that he was not abducted and was travelling with the group to Goa of his own free will. There are indications that a financial dispute may have been the reason behind the alleged abduction. The police stated that they would confirm the details only after further interrogation of all five individuals.
