Budget 2025: ID cards, E-Shram portal registration and insurance cover for online food delivery workers

NEW DELHI: The budget on Saturday is garnering headlines for the historic new tax slab revisions. It is good news for middle-class income groups in the country. Similarly, in relief are gig workers, mostly doing online food delivery.

During the budget presentation, the Finance Minister announced that those workers would be included in the e-Shram portal launched by the central government. This will benefit the country's one crore gig workers.

“The contribution of gig workers to the online platform services sector in the country is immense. Therefore, our government will provide them with identity cards and provide them with the facility to register on the E-Shram portal.’ Said the Finance minister.

Health insurance coverage will also be ensured by inclusion in the Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana. Apart from this, the Union Minister also stated that the government is planning to introduce Ayushman Bharat, Accidental Security and Life Insurance coverage to them.
