NEW DELHI: The incident where former Bollywood actress Mamata Kulkarni received sanyas at Mahakumbh Mela has become controversial. Rishi Ajay Das, the founder of Kinnar Akhara has informed that Mahamandaleshwar Laxmi Narayan Tripathi, the guru who gave diksha to Mamata Kulkarni has been expelled from the position she held at the Akhara. However, Tripathi commented that Ajay Das does not have the authority to take such a decision and that she will seek legal measures against this.
Mamata Kulkarni adopted a new name of Yamaai Mamta Nandgiri by receiving sanyas on the 24th. Ajay Das said that it is unjust towards Sanatana Dharma and the interests of the nation to give sanyas Diksha to someone who has been accused of sedition. Tripathi said that she is working in connection with Juna Akhara and her spiritual guru is Mahant Hari Giri. Ajay Das was expelled from the Akhara in 2017 for financial mismanagement, and there has been no case against Mamata Kulkarni, Tripathi said.
Mamata who has been absent from the industry for many years has been living in Kenya after her marriage. She returned to India last January after 25 years. The 2000 crore rupees drug haul case filed against the actress and her husband Vicky Goswami by Thane police in 2016, was canceled last August by the Bombay High Court.
