CHOTTANIKKARA: The post-mortem report has been released in the case of the POCSO survivor who died after being brutally assaulted by her boyfriend. The report confirms that the girl suffered brain death due to strangulation with a shawl. It also states that the girl was subjected to sexual assault and had multiple injuries all over her body, according to Chottanikkara CI N.K. Manoj. The girl's funeral has been conducted. After the post-mortem, the body was brought home around 2 PM, where family members and locals paid their respects. MLA Anoop Jacob also visited to offer condolences.
The CI stated that the denial of medical assistance also contributed to the girl's death. The accused will be charged with culpable homicide. The post-mortem report will be submitted to the court soon. The accused, Anoop, a native of Thalayolaparambu, is currently in remand. He has been charged with rape and attempted murder.
The girl succumbed to her injuries at a private hospital in Ernakulam at 2:15 PM yesterday. She had been on a ventilator for six days. Anoop, who has been involved in ganja and assault cases, had been in a relationship with the girl for about a year. The girl lived with her mother in a flat meant for widows of ex-servicemen in Kakkanad.
On Saturday night, Anoop visited the girl’s house and brutally assaulted her. When the girl attempted to strangle herself, he reportedly taunted her, saying, "Go ahead and die." When she tried to hang herself from the fan, Anoop cut the shawl, causing her to fall and sustain severe head injuries, which ultimately led to her death. Anoop was reportedly jealous of the girl talking to other friends. He had come to her house after being unable to reach her on the phone and assaulted her as soon as she opened the door, demanding to know whom she had been talking to.
