Thiruvananthapuram: A 34-year-old man has been arrested for sexually assaulting a Class 10 girl in Thiruvananthapuram. The arrested person has been identified as Vedivachankoil native Saddam Hussain. The incident took place on the morning of January 24 within the limits of Thumba Police Station.
The girl and her brother were on their way to school when the accused approached them and offered to drop them at school on his motorbike. He then made the child's brother get off mid-way, saying he would buy sweets from a shop before proceeding to school. After purchasing sweets, he took the girl to a secluded place and sexually assaulted her.
The incident came to light on January 29, when the victim, suffering from health issues, visited a hospital and revealed the incident. Based on CCTV footage, police were able to identify the suspect and arrest him from Karunagappally. Saddam Hussain is already an accused in two POCSO (Protection of Children from Sexual Offences) cases in Karunagappally and Pandalam.
Police obtained CCTV footage which showed the accused waiting for the children, taking the girl on his bike, bringing her to a shop to buy sweets, and then leaving. Based on this CCTV evidence, the police conducted an investigation, leading to the arrest of the accused.
