Concealed door behind staircase leading to secret basement; homeowner shocked to find seven-year-old secret

BEIJING: The house owner who was cleaning the house was shocked to find an unknown woman who had been living in the basement for seven years. The incident took place in Jiangsu province in eastern China. The previous owner of the house had been living in the basement without anyone's knowledge. The shocking incident came to light when a man named Li discovered a secret door behind the stairs of his house.

The previous owner of the house was hiding in a room that allowed light and air to pass through. There was even a mini bar in the room. Finding signs of someone living there, Li contacted the woman who sold the house to him by phone. Li also alleged that the time of sale was deliberately hidden from him. However, the woman argued that the basement was not included in the sales contract. The woman asked where she would spend her free time if the basement was given to Li.

At the same time, it is unclear how she got into the basement without Li knowing. Either the woman may be in possession of another key. Or there may be some other secret door in the house. Nevertheless, following Li's complaint, the court ruled that the woman's stay was illegal. The woman was also ordered to pay compensation to Li. In any case, social media is comparing this incident to the story in the Oscar-winning film Parasite.
