KOCHI: The natives of Kochi have now made metro their most preferred mode of transportation. The passenger traffic is not extraordinary but the numbers are keeping up. While on the journey, it is a common error among passengers to accidentally leave behind their valuables. This may include bags, purses, and umbrellas.
With passengers leaving behind their valuables carelessly turning into a common scenario, the officials decided to put out a list. Kochi Metro Rail Limited (KMRL) informed that 1565 belongings of passengers have been recovered from the station and inside the Metro.
These include umbrellas, jewellery, money, helmets, watches and bags. Umbrellas topped the list with 766. Then followed ornaments (124) helmets (103), electronics (70), watches (61), and bags (54). 123 items were returned to their owners. 1442 are held by KMRL without claimants.
A lost and found cell is functioning to help passengers recover lost items in the metro. The staff will first hand over the goods received from the trains and metro trains to the station controller. After recording the information of the item received, it will be transferred to the database of this cell. These will later be published on KMRL's website for the public.
Of the 766 umbrellas received, 30 were returned to their owners. 94 helmets, 113 gold and silver ornaments, 63 electronic devices, 60 spectacles and 57 watches are now in possession of this cell. Rs 12,250 has been refunded to seven passengers, who all accidentally left their purses inside the metro. Rs 71,757 is still kept in the cell without claimants. Out of 17 mobile phones received, 10 have been returned to their owners.
