SURAT: The relatives of the groom withdrew from the wedding following a shortage of food. The incident happened in Varachha area of Surat in Gujarat on February 2. Although the rituals were almost completed, the groom's relatives withdrew from the marriage over an alleged shortage of food that was being served to relatives and guests.

However, groom Rahul Pramod Mahto was not ready to withdraw from the wedding. Soon the relatives of the bride Anjali Kumari and Pramod reached the nearby police station and informed them. The officials called the groom's relatives and asked them to complete the function. It took a long time to convince them. Later, on February 3 at 4.30 am, Pramod and Anjali exchanged garlands and got married. The wedding was supervised by officials at the station to avoid any dispute between the families.

'Most of the rituals were completed. Only the exchange of garlands was left. The groom's relatives tried to withdraw from the wedding over an alleged shortage of food. Even though Pramod tried to convince his family, they refused to go ahead with the wedding. Finally, the marriage was solemnized under our mediation. The ceremony was completed at the station as there was a possibility of another clash if they were sent back to the hall,’ said Deputy Commissioner of Police Alok Kumar.
