KOZHIKODE: BJP state president K Surendran said that he would be the first person to take to the streets in protest if the central government does not provide financial assistance for the rehabilitation efforts in Wayanad. Speaking at a press conference, Surendran said that the BJP will always stand by efforts to resolve Wayanad’s issues.

"The central government has declared the Mundakkai Chooralmala landslide as a disaster of severe nature. It will provide financial aid to the state accordingly. The claim that Wayanad was ignored in the budget is incorrect. The state government has failed to properly utilize even the disaster relief funds provided by the central government. Despite having funds, Kerala has done nothing for Wayanad. Which rehabilitation projects in Wayanad have been halted due to a lack of central funds?" he asked.

Surendran refused to respond to the controversial statements made by Union Ministers Suresh Gopi and George Kurian. He further stated that a separate ministry for Scheduled Tribes was first established during the Vajpayee government and that the NDA government has always adopted the most favourable policies for backward communities.
