Rashtrapathi Bhavan is all set to host a wedding ceremony for the first time since its formation. Wedding bells will ring in one of India's highest office chamber on February 12. CRPF Assistant Commandant Poonam Gupta and CRPF Officer Avnish Kumar will tie the knot on this day, making it one of the rarest events in the history of the Rashtrapathi Bhavan. The wedding will take place at the Mother Theresa complex under tight security, where only Poonam's close relatives will participate.

Let's understand more about Poonam Gupta, the first Indian woman to get married at the Rashtrapathi Bhavan.

Poonam, a Madyapradesh native, is currently serving as a personal security officer of the President. She was in charge of the Woman contingent of the 74th Republic Day parade. She has also worked in several areas of Bihar.

She holds a bachelor's and master's degree in Maths and English respectively and also has a B.Ed before joining the armed forces. Poonam secured 81st rank in the CAPF exam held in 2018 and joined as Assistant Commandant. According to national media, President Droupadi Murmu herself gave the nod to Poonam's request to get married at the Rashtrapathi Bhavan. Poonam's good service and character made her eligible for this. Even though many support this special event, several eyebrows have also been raised regarding the same.
