PATHANAMTHITTA: Pathanamthitta SI S Jinu, who was transferred in the incident of unnecessarily beating up a wedding party, has been suspended. DIG Ajitha Begum suspended the SI and two policemen. The district police chief had submitted a detailed report on the incident to the DIG. The SI had been transferred to the SP office earlier.
The incident took place around 11 pm on Tuesday. The Kottayam natives had stopped on the way after going to a wedding-related function at Aban Junction in Pathanamthitta. The wedding party had halted as children in the group had to urinate. There were about 20 people in the vehicle at that time. Meanwhile, the SI and his team reached the spot and lathi-charged. Sithara, a native of Mundakkayam, her husband Sreejith and her relative Shijin were thrashed by the police. Those outside the vehicle were also attacked. The police team left after that.
Those who were beaten up by the police sought treatment at the General Hospital in their own vehicle. The police arrived and lathi-charged after receiving a report that some people were causing trouble in front of the bar. However, the police did not even inquire who the actual troublemakers were. The Kottayam natives testified that they were chased and beaten after being told to scram. Subsequently, a case was registered against the SI and other policemen.
