KANNUR: A nursing student from Kannur committed suicide in Ramanagara, Karnataka on Wednesday. Anamika (19), a native of Muzhappilangad, was found hanging dead in her hostel room.

Anamika was a first-year BSc student at Dayanand Nursing College. On Tuesday night, Anamika was not seen in a mess during dinner time which evoked doubt among classmates. The students then barged into her room, which was locked from inside, and were shocked to see her hanging from the ceiling.

Classmates say that Anamika faced severe mental pressure from the management. Many blamed the college management responsible for the death. Relatives say that Anamika was suspended for four days for allegedly cheating in exams and was also asked to pay a huge fine to attend classes and get a certificate.

It is reported that Anamika recently told her friends about management not allowing her to continue with her studies. The Haroli police registered a case and started an investigation. Relatives are also making allegations against principal Shantam Sweet Rose and class coordinator Sujitha.

Anamika is the daughter of Vineeth and Aishwarya of ‘Gokulam’ near Kadavu Road in Muzhappilangad. Vinayakan is her brother.
