KOCHI: Greeshma of Parassala, the first accused in the Sharon murder case, has approached the Kerala High Court. She moved the high court seeking to quash the order of the Neyyattinkara Additional Sessions Court awarding her death sentence. Greeshma is presently housed in Attakkulangara Jail.
Neyyattinkara Additional Sessions Court Judge A M Basheer, who observed that it was a rarest of rare cases, awarded her capital punishment. The court had sentenced Greeshma's uncle Nirmala Kumaran Nair to three years in prison and had also imposed a fine of Rs 2 lakh. The hearing was completed in three months.
Greeshma mixed poison in ayurvedic medicine and gave it to Sharon Raj of Parassala on October 14 in 2022. Sharon died after eleven days of undergoing treatment.
Greeshma decided to kill Sharon as she wanted to end her relationship with him as her family had arranged her marriage with a soldier. The police had found that Greeshma's mother and uncle had connived at her efforts. Nirmala Kumaran Nair had bought the herbicide for Greeshma.
The case was investigated by a special team led by D Shilpa, the then Thiruvananthapuram Rural SP. In the case where there were no eyewitnesses, the investigation was conducted based solely on circumstantial evidence. Digital, forensic and scientific evidence also proved crucial.
