IDUKKI: A 57-year-old man met with a tragic end after being attacked by a wild elephant in Marayoor, Idukki. The deceased has been identified as Vimal (57), who belongs to a tribal community in Champakkad. The attack took place inside the Chinnar Wildlife Sanctuary. Vimal was setting up a fire line when the elephant attacked him. Although the people who were with him rushed him to the hospital, his life could not be saved.

A nine-member team had gone into the forest to set up the fire line, and there were two women in the group. While others ran away, the elephant attacked Vimal, who was at the back. The elephant picked him up with its trunk and threw him to the ground. The body is currently kept in the mortuary of the Marayoor hospital. After the post-mortem is completed, the body will be handed over to the family.
