THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Kerala Cricket Association (KCA) said the show cause notice was not served to former cricketer S Sreesanth for supporting Sanju Samson. The KCA in a press release said the notice was issued to Sreesanth for his false and defamatory statements against the association.
Sreesanth, the co-owner of the Kerala Cricket League franchise team, said defamatory things about the Kerala Cricket Association and it is a breach of contract. The association has always taken a stand to protect players. The association had visited and supported him when he was jailed for spot fixing, which is a dark chapter in Indian cricket. However, the BCCI imposed a life ban when allegations of spot fixing turned to be true.
The BCCI Ombudsman later reduced the life ban to seven years. Although the court quashed the criminal case, it is true that he has not been acquitted in it. Such a Sreesanth should not take up the protection of the players of the Kerala Cricket Association.
The KCA gave Sreesanth another chance in matches including the Ranji Trophy, after he completed his sentence, only because of the association's protective stance. He should find out if other associations had taken such a favorable approach towards other players involved in spot fixing.
While commentating for the Kerala Cricket League, Sreesanth had praised the association for what they do for the players.
Sreesanth's question on who came in the Indian team after Sanju Samson is ridiculous. Sreesanth's ignorance of the fact that apart from senior national players Sajna Sajevan, Minnumani and Asha Shobhana, Joshita VJ, Najla CMC in the U-19 team and Muhammed Inan in the U-19 Asia Cup winning team for the women's Indian team, and the men's U-19 Asia Cup team, is seen as a lack of knowledge about Kerala cricket.
No matter who commits a breach of discipline, it cannot be allowed. In a press release, the KCA pointed that action will be taken if false things are said and defamed the association.
