Three-year-old boy dies after falling into garbage pit at Nedumbassery Airport

KOCHI: A three-year-old boy died after falling into the garbage pit near the cafeteria of Nedumbassery Airport. The dead is Rithan Jaju, son of Saurabh of Rajasthan. The family was in the flight from Jaipur that landed here Friday morning at 11.30 am. The incident happened while the boy was playing with his brother. Though taken to the hospital, his life could not be saved.

The Cochin International Airport Ltd (CIAL) in a release said the incident happened behind the ‘Anna Sara’ Café outside the domestic terminal. The authorities explained that the incident happened at the place where the public have no entry. There is no walking space there. There is a building on one side and a fence with bougainvillea on the other side.

Soon after the boy went missing, his parents had informed the airport authorities. When examined the CCTV with the help of the security wing, saw the child crossing the fence and falling into the pit. The child was given first aid soon after taking him out. He was later taken to Little Flower Hospital in Angamaly.

The child died at 1.42 pm while undergoing treatment. The authorities are with the boy’s family for further proceedings.
