PALAKKAD: The Revenue Department has rejected the land conversion application submitted by Oasis Commercial Pvt Ltd for the brewery project in Elappulli. The application was rejected by the Palakkad Revenue Divisional Officer. The RDO clarified that the application for conversion of land, which is included in the data bank in Elappulli, cannot be approved for any construction. The land should be used for farming.

The application submitted by Oasis was for a concession to construct a brewery on four acres. The RDO also rejected the demand for a concession, citing the tenets of the Land Utilisation Act. The RDO directed that the agriculture officer submit a report after assuring that this land is agricultural land and also that it is being used for farming.

K. Rajan, who is the Minister for Revenue, is a CPI leader. The CPI does not have a favourable stance towards the Palakkad brewery, although this has not been expressed publicly. It is reported that the CPI had taken a decision on this issue at the state executive meeting held in Alappuzha. The CPI had also asked K. Rajan and Agriculture Minister P. Prasad to submit a report in this regard. Reports say that the CPI will take a stand based on this report.
