NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court has granted permission to Kerala Police to proceed with the enquiry based on the statements of the victims and witnesses mentioned in the Hema committee report. At the same time, it has also not made any remarks or interfered with the High Court verdict of allowing the special enquiry team to file cases based on the statements mentioned in the report. The Supreme Court has also rejected the demands of producer Sajimon to cancel the High Court orders and to stop the enquiry. A bench of justices Vikramnath, Sanjay Karol, and Sandeep Karol made it clear that it is the responsibility of the police to take action if they get the information that a serious crime has been committed and their power to proceed with the enquiry cannot be questioned. The judges also opinioned that it is up to the High Court to enquire whether FIR is registered based on evidence or not.
Asked to approach the High Court
The Supreme Court has also not given its opinion on the petitions of actress Mala Parvathy and lady make-up artist mentioning that the Special Investigation Team is forcing them to give statements. Both of them can approach the High Court at any time and also said that the High Court should not hold back from enquiring if it receives any complaints regarding the same. Mala Parvathy said earlier that she gave the statement to the Hema Committee for the betterment of the film industry and to arrange a better working environment for women artists. The artist also made it clear that she has not given her consent to use her statement for criminal proceedings.
