MALAPPURAM: Health department has initiated action against Prabhin, husband of 25-year-old Vishnuja, who committed suicide in Elankur. Prabhin, a staff nurse at the Manjeri Government Medical College, has been suspended from service by the state health department.
He was earlier charged with inciting suicide and dowry harassment in the death of Vishnuja. Prabhin, remanded by the court in the case, is now in jail. On January 30, Vishnuja, a native of Pookkottumpadam, was found hanging dead in the house of Prabhin, a native of Elankur. The dead body had bruises on both hands which is doubted to be Vishnuja's attempt to cut her veins.
According to Vishnuja’s family, Prabhin used to harass his wife for being jobless, not having fair skin, and giving him less dowry. Despite her pleadings, Prabhin used to shame Vishnu for her brown skin tone. When Vishnuja sought help from Prabhin’s family, rather than warning him, the family is alleged to have sided up with Prabhin.
Prabhin was arrested on February 3 on the complaint of Vishnuja’s family.
“They had differences of opinion. But never did they fight at home or go for violence. We have no role in the death.” Said Prabhin’s family.
